viewpic New Year, New Beginnings

Around this time many of us are eager to make a courageous effort to change our circumstances and improve the quality of our lives and the lives of our families. Many of us will reflect on last year's goals and plans and ask ourselves why we accomplished one thing and failed somewhere else. We have to recognize our bad habits and how they are working against us and what we can do to form healthy habits. Be very honest with yourself, make no excuses and evaluate your situation. If you don't make an effort to make small changes you are going to have the same results as you did in 2007.

The number one hindrance to our growth is procrastination; the fear of something new and unfamiliar. We all experience this fear on a daily basis and some of us ignore the fear while others wait to feel better.

We also need to have a worthwhile purpose that will motivate us to make small changes. Some of us make changes to make us happy, more attractive, more informative, more money or better organized. Yet some of us make positive changes to improve the life quality of our kids and grandkids. Whatever your reason to step up and say NO to bad habits, make it a good reason and one that will enhance your life and the life of those you love.

Here are some simple and practical tips that will help you on your mission to get
your home and your life organized.

  • Buy a big wall calendar or planner and write down all your on-going appointments, birthdays, anniversaries and everything else important to you.

  • How many junk drawers do you have? Dump the mystery contents on the floor or table and sort through everything. If you can't name it, don't know its use, trash it. Buy drawer dividers and store the items you use and like.

  • Sort your magazines, keep only the current ones. Cut out the articles you would like to keep and put them in a sheet protector. Place these in a three ring binder. Alternately, most magazines have websites; download the article to your computer.

  • Sort your medicine cabinet and remove expired medications. Your pharmacist will advise you on how to dispose of them safely.
